The Kukinoumi Hanabi no Saiten (くきのうみ花火の祭典) is held at Green Park in the Hibiki-nada coastal area of Kitakyushu’s Wakamatsu ward — a bayside venue that makes for a strong fireworks backdrop. Around 4,000 shells are launched over the water, usually in late July or early August.
About the venue
- Location: Hibiki-nada Green Park (響灘緑地グリーンパーク), Wakamatsu, Kitakyushu
- Access: Bus from JR Orio Station, or car (parking available but fills early)
- Scale: Around 4,000 shells; music-synced sequences
Hotels to consider
THE STEEL HOUSE (Kitakyushu) — design hotel overlooking Dokai Bay and the factory night view; stylish rooms with industrial waterfront scenery, a short distance from the festival area. Kitakyushu Yahata Royal Hotel — hilltop hotel with views over the water and city. Kokura Station area hotels (ANA Crowne Plaza, Hotel Crown Palais Kitakyushu) — central Kitakyushu base, 20–30 minutes to the venue by car; more options and easier to book.
Tips
- The festival venue is not in central Kitakyushu — plan transport in advance; shuttle buses may run on the day.
- Staying in Kokura and taking a car or bus to the venue is a common approach.
- The Kanmon Strait Fireworks Festival (much larger, over 1 million spectators) is also in the same region — see our Kanmon hotel guide if you’re choosing between the two.
Confirm 2026 dates on the official Kitakyushu tourism site before booking.
